Do you think taking up this martial art would be beneficial for someone looking to loose weight? Is it a good choice as an exercise?

  2. ANY excercise will make you loose weight - if you eat accordingly. If you want to shed pounds, you have to get to a negative energy-balance, that's it. Either you provide your body with less calories or you make it burn more.
If you want to do Lightsaber at really high-intensities, it will burn a lot of calories. Simple math.

^ What Al-Kar said. So many people ask if "this" or "that" will help with weight loss... If you are moving, it will. You just have to not over eat and spend most of your other time on your bum.

Haha of course you lose weight! Have you ever taken a Martial Arts class while out of shape!? I did when I was younger. I was the fat kid. Joined a class one summer and went from the fat kid to the ripped kid in 3 months.

This sums it up the best. The more advanced moves you master, the more "in-shape" it will get ya! Same for any Martial Arts really.

So how much weight did you lost!? To go from a fat kid to the ripped kid you must have worked your butt off!

Even just moving more than you did in the past while keeping your diet the exact same will eventually lead to weight loss.
As mentioned, movement is all it takes. Not sure why or how it is such a big issue with people unless there is a medical reason.
