SO I went to a cosplay event that happened over the weekend and I was a bit disappointed.
I went with a few people I have been training with. Yes, we dressed up and brought our sabers but what disappointed me was the reactions we got. Like I understand that saber arts/ lightsaber dueling is not super popular yet but come on! Most of the people who we talked to all thought what we did was like LARPing. Like I don't get how people do not view this as true martial arts sparring specially when it is not scripted or rehearsed.

    Anyone else get these reactions?

I think this is bound to happen in some places but you would think that a place like this people would get it. I guess maybe the event you went to was more for people who did larping? Not sure.
I never had someone actually tell me that is was larping or that what I was doing is fake per say.

Every cosplay and comic event is different so I think it depends on the event. What kind did you go to? I am curious as to why people would dismiss what you were saying.

Alright well I am going to give you a tid-bit based on the experiences I have had. Depending on the kind of event you go to, some of the crowds are honestly douchey people. I am not saying that to be mean but I have met some of the most self centered pieces of work as cosplay events. You would think these people are friendly and open to ideas... Not the case. I would not worry about it too much Beth. Sometimes it is best to just let people think they are right.
